Top offers for your winter holiday in the ski resort Braunlage (Harz)

Braunlage (Harz)

Surrounded by the Harz National Park, Braunlage has developed into one of the region's winter sports centres. At the foot of the highest mountain in Lower Saxony, the Wurmberg (971 m), the climatic health resort lies at an altitude of 620 m just a few kilometres away from a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2010, the Upper Harz water management system, which still characterises the landscape today with a sophisticated network of kilometres of ditches, tunnels and ponds for energy production, was awarded the prestigious title.

Other sights in Braunlage include the spa gardens, the stone cliff and the large and small Bode waterfalls. The local museum is also particularly interesting for winter sports enthusiasts. As an official FIS ski museum, it also documents the development of skiing in the Harz Mountains.

In addition to ice hockey, ski jumping also played a major role in Braunlage for a long time. The Wurmbergschanze, which was built in 1922, hosted FIS Continental Cup competitions until 2011. Unfortunately, the facility was then demolished in 2014. The Wurmberg tower has stood in its place since 2019, offering visitors a fantastic view of the entire Harz Mountains on clear days.

Harz

The Harz is the most Northern winter sport area in Germany and offers a diverse wildlife on a 2,200 km² big expanse. As soon as the first snow falls, winter sports fans find their way into this magnificent area, which is made possible by the Brocken (1,141 m), the highest mountain in Northern Germany. Especially in the villages around the National Park Harz, which was founded transnationally in 1995, attractive Alpine skiing, as well as cross-country skiing areas have developed. Cross-country tracks and pistes with varying degrees of difficulty, as well as toboggan runs and nature ice areas arrange for diverse recreational fun for the whole family. The dreamlike winter landscape can also be explored by way of one of the versatile winter hiking trails. Furthermore, numerous rustic restaurants invite you to enjoy a cosy evening with local specialities or international cuisine.
